Sarasota, FL: City of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday, January 15 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup will continue as regularly scheduled.
The regularly scheduled City Commission meeting will be held the following day, Tuesday, January 16 at City Hall’s Commission Chambers at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Bobby Jones Golf Club, Lido Pool, the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall will have regular business hours on MLK Day.
The 37th Annual Sarasota MLK Day Celebration, presented by the MLK Celebration Committee in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee and Temple Emanu-El, will feature several events on Monday, January 15, honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.:
- MLK Memorial Breakfast: The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, featuring entertainment, speakers and more. The event costs $20/person. Proceeds will benefit the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee college scholarship fund. Contact Jetson Grimes with questions or to register: 941-780-4060.
- Unity Walk: The 1-mile walk from RLTCC to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 2601 Cocoanut Ave, will begin immediately following the breakfast. Shuttles will be available for those unable to walk.
- MLK Celebration in the Park: The walk will be followed by a celebration in MLK Park, beginning at 12 p.m. and featuring entertainment, food, community booths and more. Admission is free
